Educating the public about the importance of gourds.

State Fair in September

The SCGS will again be hosting a day-long event during the Sc State Fair, in the Moore Building. Last year, over 2,000 people came through the exhibit where they saw Patch members working on various projects, or stopped to talk about gourds with Dickie, or viewed numerous finished projects that we had on special display within our area. This year, the date is Friday, October 22. Be sure to mark your calendar and think about volunteering with fellow Patch members to help staff this event. Last year, we had the Cypress Patch cover the morning, the afternoon was handled by the Palmetto and Traveling Patch with assistance from the Columbia group, and the evening was covered by the Orangeburg Edisto Patch. About five to seven folks are needed for each shift. Parking is right behind the building and admission is free. Speak to your Patch Leader soon about your willingness to help with this great opportunity to show our gourd stuff to the community!

Also think about entering some of your gourd art in the fair competitions. There is a Fine Arts division as well as the crafts division. You can enter online at www.scstatefair.org .  Open Entry Registration Period July 1 - Sept. 1
