Cypress Patch News

We usually meet the first Tuesday of each month, but due to assorted illnesses (members or family members) we are postponing our formal meetings and dues until the first of the year. September/October are busy months for us as we are preparing work for the gourd exhibit in Orangeburg and also our first Art show. Then come the holidays. So we decided to take a break and then hit the gourd running after January, with the Ghost Creek GourdFest our main priority at that time.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to the members of the Cypress Gourd Patch for their participation in the recent Orangeburg Fair.  Carol Boyd received a second place ribbon in the Novice division; Linda Barrett took three first place awards in the Intermediate division; Jackie Jurecek took a first and third place ribbons in the Open division; and Betsey Sloan received four first place, two second place and two third place ribbons in the Open division as well as Best in Show and Best in Open division, the last two awards being given by the WoodCarvers Society.

A display showing works by the Cypress Patch members was created for use at upcoming events.

Marvin Berg and Jackie Jurecek, Cypress Patch members, are shown hard at work on one of their creations for the upcoming Orangeburg Fair.

These gourds are sample of some of the work the Cypress Patch will have for sale at their Art in the Park event on Saturday, September 27.

The Cypress Patch participated in the Sumter Art in the Park event in late September. Selling work was Betsey Sloan, Linda Barrett, Jackie Jurecek and Paula Berg. Even with the declining economy, overall the booth sold about $400 worth of gourds. Better yet, many people were exposed to the creativity available in gourd art.
